5 November to 2 December 2020 – TriHarman-Norfolk Lockdown Challenge

With Lockdown 2.0 upon us, all of our plans for November have now been put on hold. Teresa has put her swim challenge on hold until the pools reopen, however Ben Hunter-Watts has brought his cycling challenge forward to occupy him during lockdown. We will support this massive challenge, through our own challenge and the opportunity to join him for parts of his 3000 mile virtual across America ride during November. Ben is hoping to raise £3000 each for two charities that have done fantastic work during the challenges presented by COVID in 2020. You can read more about his challenge here:

The lockdown rules allow individuals to exercise, you can also exercise outdoors with another person. This will allow us to attempt another club challenge through November; as a club running or walking 1000 miles before 2nd December.

We ask our club members to report their run and walk distances each day, by Facebook post, messenger or email, for us to collate towards the total. We will update the daily totals on our Facebook page and weekly by email. We will encourage you to complete at least one of your runs/walks in club colours and supply us with a picture. If we reach the target the club will make a donation to Ben’s nominated charities and hopefully our members will similarly support the causes through the month.

To encourage your daily exercise mileages, those taking part, who support with a donation, have the opportunity to compete for a night stay at The Victoria, Holkham donated by Ben. The club member reporting the greatest mileage will be crowned the winner. So from Thursday 5th November keep a note of all your run miles, dog or leisure walks, all contribute to the club total.

12 November 2020 (onwards) – Sam Proctor Special Turbo Sessions

As we have not been able to do our usual winter spinning group Pro Triathlete Sam has offered to lead a series of hour long Turbo sessions over Zoom, so you can ride along in the comfort of your own home. With the surprise lockdown and start of Ben riding his challenge Sam has brought this forward to start on Thursday 12th November.

To take part you will pay at least the usual winter spinning class fee of £3 for each session, to the charity collection set up by Ben, link above. I am sure you will support the deserving causes while benefitting from a great workout with Sam and the other club members on the session.

You just need a bike on an indoor trainer and a device to link with the Zoom session. You decide how hard to work although I am sure Sam will get the best out of you.

1 to 31 December 2020 – John’s Bike Challenge

Inspired by Ben’s Lockdown challenge we want you to get on two wheels and see how many laps of the county you can do. You can ride virtually or actually and even actually ride the real route, the choice is flexible. Report your mileage, you have all of December until New Years Day. You can compete as an individual or as a team. If you are on Strava and in the TriHarman Strava club, all rides will be picked up, otherwise post your ride on Facebook or email details to John.

If you are a Team please let us know the team members by Saturday 5th Dec.

One lap is bronze, two silver, three gold, any more than that we call you Ben. The awards can be converted into free swim sessions….bronze one session, silver three sessions and gold five (it is Christmas after all!).

The border of Norfolk is 322.6km or 200 miles.

5 December 2020 – Zwift Criterium Race (08:45)

Some say that the Tour de France is the toughest cycling race in the world, but have they ever tried cycling on a turbo in their bedroom with a dodgy internet connection and a broken fan? There are no domestiques to come and pick up the towel that you’ve dropped, or support cars to hand you a fresh bottle and/or other ‘stimulants’. No, it’s just you and your avatar against the cruel (virtual) world.

On Saturday 5th December a new event will most likely (not) become regarded as the pinnacle of cycle racing – the inaugural TriHarman Zwift Criterium Race. For those that don’t know, a Criterium (or Crit) is just a race of several laps around a short course. The event that we’ve chosen is the Crit City Race that starts at 08:45 on Saturday 5th December. This uses 12 laps of the 1.9km Downtown Dolphin course, which is quite flat. The race will probably take around 35 mins.

We’re hoping to get as many Zwifters as possible all taking part and racing at the same time, so pencil this date into your diary.

5 December 2020 – Club Group Ride (Bodham)

To get you started with December’s Bike Challenge we will have a club ride on Saturday 5th December at 10.30am (so that the Zwifters can join in) starting at Bodham and following the coast road, direction will be depending on the wind! Say if you are coming so we know how many groups (up to 6) we will have.
